The E-Business Suite Release 11i has two interfaces: a web-based model for modules like iProcurement and iStore, and an Oracle Forms-based model for our professional services modules like Financials. Oracle Forms are Java-based and require a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to be installed on end-user desktop clients. Oracle JInitiator is Oracle's licenced version of Sun's JVM, and E-Business Suite Forms-based modules are certified to run with specific versions of Oracle JInitiator. Just a note here that if you have any JAVA versions installed, removing them first will also help in certain situations.

The only official Oracle documentation I could find about Jinitiator's encryption level is an ancient FAQ from 1999:www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/256629.pdf US export regulations on crypto technology have been relaxed since then, so I'm trying to find out whether Jinitiator encryption support was upgraded from 40-bit to 128-bit encryption. Joe,Excerpted from Note 123718.1: Key Size Limitation of 512 bits for Oracle Forms 6i Server Due to restrictions imposed by the United States during the initial development of Oracle Applications Release 11i, rapid installs up to 11i.4 include the Export Edition of Developer 6i. The result of this being that Oracle Wallet Manager and Forms 6i Server supported a private/public key size no longer than 512 bits and corresponding 40-bit client-server message encryption.

Since the original release of Oracle Applications Release 11i, laws concerning encryption strength have relaxed, Developer 6i has gained an?approved product? Status effectively removing the distinction between domestic and export encryption and a key size of 1024 bits and corresponding 128-bit client-server message encryption has become the recommended standard. Bug 1365794 has been logged for this limitation of the Forms Server included with Release 11i technology stack. Bug 1713616 provides details of a one off patch that can be applied to Developer 6i to upgrade from the export to the domestic edition to gain the benefit of the improved encryption levels that it supplies. This patch is required for any Release 11i implementations that have been installed with RapidInstall versions 11i.3 or earlier that would like to use the higher encryption levels supported in the domestic version of the Developer 6I base. Any new implementations that have been installed with version 11i.4 or later of RapidInstall will already incorporate the domestic version of Developer 6i.
(On NT 4.0 / Win 2000, any patch for 6I will upgrade the export version to domestic). From Forms 6i patch 5 (6.0.8.14) onwards, the domestic edition will be applied to all implementations. If you are not sure which version of forms your install of Release 11i Applications is using, you can check this by setting up the environment for the 8.0.6 ORACLEHOME and typing f60run. This will display a page of information to the terminal, the first line of which shows the Forms Runtime version. If you're on 11.5.3 or earlier, the bottom line is that you can use Jinitiator with 128-bit encryption support by applying a few patches. If you're on 11.5.4 and above, you already have 128-bit support. Hello, Khalid, JInitiator 1.3 is based on Sun JDK 1.3. Sun JDK 1.3 does not work on Microsoft Vista.
Sun has desupported JDK 1.3 and has no plans to make this version compatible with Vista. Therefore, Oracle JInitiator will not work on Vista. Here in Mexico I work for BBVA Bank as an appraiser, i work on a Oracle -IAS platform called GEXTA with requires a JInitiator installed on my machine.

Up until now I've been using an emulator (vmware fusion + windows xp) but I'd like to run it natively and also if it's possible to run it on the iPad through the new oracle app or am I just wishing for the impossible?
